Types of Shaper-
Shaper machines are divided into several groups based on the driving mechanism, the ram travel, the table design, and the cutting stroke. So, here they are:
On the basis of the driving mechanism-
- Crank type shaper machine
- Geared type shaper machine
- Hydraulic type shaper machine
Crank type Shaper machine-
Using the crank mechanism and the Bull gear, the rotary motion of the motor is transformed into the reciprocatory action of the ram.
In the mechanical industry, these sorts of shaper machines are relatively popular and widely utilised mechanisms.
Geared type shaper machine-
As you may know, gears are key parts of any mechanical system that functions as a power transmission device, and a gear-type shaper machine is one of the gear-generating machines that use a multipoint metal cutting tool to cut off the internal and exterior teeth of the gears.
The ram’s reciprocating motion is aided by a rack and pinion arrangement.
Hydraulic Types shaper machine-
The hydraulic shaper’s ram is coupled to a hydraulic system that comprises of an oil-filled cylinder and piston configuration.
Based on Ram Travel-
- Horizontal shaper machine
- Vertical shaper machine
Horizontal shaper machine-
The horizontal shaper machine, as the name implies, employs a single-point cutting tool to shape the job in a linear or horizontal motion.
The ram moves back and forth with the aid of a crank mechanism and is most commonly employed on flat surfaces.
Vertical shaper machine-
In the case of a vertical shaper machine, the movement of the ram is in the vertical direction. Vertical shapers can be crank mechanisms, rack mechanisms, and hydraulic mechanisms.
Internal surfaces, slots, and groves are perfect for cutting on a vertical shaper machine. A slotting machine is another name for it.
Based on the table design-
Standard shaper machine-
The table on a conventional shaper machine can move in two directions: vertical and horizontal. The table can be positioned in both vertical and horizontal directions to suit the job.
Universal shaper machine-
The table of a universal shaper machine can be moved in three directions: vertical, horizontal, and inclined.
A universal shaper machine can be rotated around its axis without changing the other components of the system.
Universal shaper machines can be used for universal applications and can be utilised in a variety of settings.
Based on the cutting stroke-
- Push cut type machine
- Draw cut type machine
Push cut type shaper machine-
This is the most popular sort of shaper machine, in which metal is removed while forward movement of the ram.
Draw cut shaper machine-
This sort of shaper machine is the polar opposite of a push cut shaper machine, in which metal is removed backwards due to the tool head being fixed in the opposite direction.
